In 1974, television station WTOL—Toledo11Eleven—began running a series of teaser ads indicating that something new was coming to the evening news. These spots were only a few seconds long and short on detail, but they created far more excitement in the mind of a tween boy than they really should have.
After weeks of speculation, the big day finally arrived, and it was… underwhelming. Instead of a formal studio setup, the news was now delivered “live from the newsroom.” There sat Jeff Heitz at what was ostensibly his desk, delivering the news while other folks typed, walked past, and answered phones in the background. It was interesting enough, but hardly the earth-shaking moment the hype would have had us believe.
At the risk of pulling a Toledo11Eleven, I’m hyping something cool that I’ve been working on behind the scenes for a couple of months. I'm dropping a new novella, "The Two Dollar," as an exclusive Kindle ebook next Tuesday. Set in the Owen Sinclair "universe," it is a quick 1-hour read. Best of all, it will be FREE to download through March 22nd.
I'll post a link once the ebook goes live, but I wanted to give you all a heads up.
